Greater NYC Cohort
Dr. Merav Ben-Nun, an educator and a social and political peace activist, received her PhD in International Education from New York University, and her BA in Political Science and Sociology, from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Upon returning to Israel at the completion of her studies, Merav founded the Hand in Hand bilingual integrated Jewish-Arab school in Haifa, Israel, where she also built a shared adult community of Haifa residents, Jews and Arabs. Merav continued to work at Hand in Hand, heading the Community Building Department and leading a team of community organizers and the building of new bilingual schools and communities in mixed cities in Israel. Merav also served as a lecturer at Oranim Academic College, and has been able to combine her academic pursuits with hands-on work, holding deep experience and knowledge in historical and contemporary aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, education in societies in conflict, community and educational aspects of peace building and the fostering of a shared society, and issues related to civil leadership development, dialogue and intercultural understanding. She recently moved back to NY with her family and is teaching at Harlem Hebrew Language Academy.
