Greater LA Cohort
Maia Ferdman believes in the power of identity to bind together communities, and the power of communities to effect positive change. In her role as Human Relations Advocate for the City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission, Maia pursues intergroup peace-building through community engagement, dialogue, and policy change. Prior to working with the City, Maia was a Program Coordinator for Global Jewish Experiences and Fishel Fellow with the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, in partnership with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Through this fellowship, Maia volunteered in a slum outside Mumbai, India, worked with a nonprofit empowering teens in Israel's socioeconomic periphery, and spent one year providing international opportunities and programming for Jewish young adults across Europe. She then returned to Los Angeles, where she brought a global perspective to various Federation initiatives and departments. Maia holds a B.A. in Global Studies and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from UCLA.
